The Cancer Challenge is Growing
Ireland has made significant progress in cancer care, with advances in treatment helping more people live longer after a diagnosis. But the challenge is growing. More than 44,000 people in Ireland are diagnosed with cancer each year.1
Cancer cases are projected to rise significantly in the decades ahead2, placing even greater pressure on services, patients, families, healthcare professionals and the healthcare system itself.
A Shared Future
But it doesn’t need to be this way. We have a vision of a future where cancer can be outsmarted and, in some cases, even cured. A future where cancer can be eliminated as a cause of death. But scientific innovation alone won’t achieve this. To realise this bold ambition, it will take extraordinary people from across society working towards the same collective purpose. We will need to ensure that no patient is left behind and that health systems are ready for what comes next.
Perspectives Matter: Shaping the Future of Cancer Care Together is an AstraZeneca Ireland initiative intended to bring people together, ask the big questions, and help shape how cancer care needs to evolve.
